Desertinho Atlantic Ocean – Both Australia and New Zealand slams Japan’s decision to resume Antarctic whaling.

Japan cannot ‘unilaterally decide’ to ignore scientific advice and international court of justice ruling to hunt and kill 333 Minke whales. Japan cannot unilaterally decide to start whaling in Antarctica again against the advice of scientists, says the environment minister of Australia. Japan is set to ignore an international court of justice ruling that last year prompted Tokyo to cancel the bulk of its whaling for the 2014-15 season. The Japanese Fisheries Agency has notified the International Whaling Commission (IWC) that it will resume whaling in the 2015-16 season under a revised plan. Australia, New Zealand, and even the UK strongly opposes the decision by Japan to resuming whaling in the Southern Ocean this summer. The Japanese whalers can expect patrol vessels from Australia, Great Britain, and New Zealand to come out as observers. This has happened only once before, in 2008, when an Australian ship came down to collect evidence that was eventually used in the International Court of Justice trial against the Japanese whalers.

In march 2016, the 25th, the Japanese government announced they “only” had killed theire annual quota of 333 Antarctic Minke whales for that year in the natural reserve of Antarctica. But sad, but true, the Japanese whaling fleet in reality killed 533 Antarctic Minke whales! How come? 200 of the hunted, and harpooned, Antarctic Minke whales had proven to be pregnant at the time of the Japanese hunt and these female Antarctic Minke whales had no chance at all to escape the fast whaling vessels of the Japanese government. Conclussion is: It will take decades, again, for the Antarctic Minke whale population in Antarctica to recover another extreme loss caused by the Japanese government. Finally, it is time  Japan stops all theire whaling programs forever. It is so old fashioned like this beautiful statue below placed in a country, 30 years ago, that voluntarily stopped whaling forever…

Desertinho Atlantic Ocean – International Whale(ing) Commission also says NO to Japan.
