Bryde’s whale Photo-ID

Desertinho Atlantic Whale observations works together with several Bryde’s whale (Balaenoptera edeni) Whale Photo-ID projects on the Atlantic Ocean since 2012. I’am really proud to share my data, and information, together with other “Whale Photo-ID” researchers worldwide. In winter 2015 I achieved an amazing whale photo-ID match result. This time it is about Bryde’s whales. The female Bryde’s whale on this photo has a very distinctive scar on her dorsal fin as you can see. It is for sure that she had a colission with a “ships propeller” in her younger years. We are sure about that because my colleagues, in Madeira, had seen her allready in 2006. So, we indentified this Bryde’s whale two times in 9 years of time. This specific Bryde’s whale gives us lots of information about: Bryde’s whales migration routes, their age, their behaviour, and feeding patterns.
