Seal rescue

From 2007 till 2014 I worked for the SRRC (Seal Rescue & Rehabilition Centre) in the Netherlands as a volunteer. In that period I learned a lot about seal rescue & rehabilitation and I have 7 years of experience with severall kind of seals like: Common seals (Phoca vitulina), Gray seals (Halichoerus grypus), Hooded seals (Cystophora cristata) and Ringed seals (Pusa hispida). Beside Seal Rescue & Rehabilition work I also was 7 years member of the “Seal Rescue and First Aid” team in the Netherlands.

In 2014 I decided to go international and just for the Mediterranean Monk seal population in the world. There are 3 kinds of Monk seals: The Mediterranean Monk seal (Monachus monachus), the Hawaiian Monkseal (Monachus schauinslandi), and the Caribbean Monk seal (Monachus tropicalis).

These photo’s on this page are about different seal pups in the SRRC hospital. The reason why they ended up there was because they had lost there mum during their suckling period. All pups were just a few weeks old and I just had fed them at the time. After feeding them I always liked to take some pictures of them, in hospital clothing of course, in their quarantaine unit. I’am really proud that I was able to help lots of young gray and young common seal pups to start all over again. After 3 months, in general, all seal pups had been released into the Wadden sea or North Sea in the Netherlands.
